There are many options for presenting media to a player while they are facing a Challenge.   The list below will outline how those options play out.   The Challenge Maze Software will do or attempt the following actions in this order:
A word challenge is the simplest sort of challenge to make.   A Maze Maker provides the text to display to the player in the Challenge Text Entry and provides an answer (or a list of possible answers) to the Challenge Maze Software in the Challenge Word Answer Entry.   Both the answer entered by the player and the possible answers listed by the Maze Maker are compared against each other to figure out if the challenge has been solved.   The answer comparison is not case sensitive.   Also, it is possible to enter numbers in this type of challenge answer but the Challenge Maze Software will simply treat them as text to be compared to the player's entry.
A number challenge allows a Maze Maker to present mathematical challenges in unique formats using the Challenge Text Entry.   Instead of simply entering a challenge and an answer to that challenge, a Maze Maker provides the Challenge Maze Software with ranges of numbers (or exact numbers) that can be used in the challenge by making an entry in the NUM's Ranges Entry.   The Challenge Maze Software randomly selects numbers from within the ranges provided so that the challenges are not exactly the same every time a maze is played.   In order to tell the Challenge Maze Software how to calculate an answer, the Maze Maker enters short instructions in the Formula with NUM's Entry.   To allow for numbers in a challenge to be larger for more advanced players while still remaining smaller for less advanced players, a Maze Maker enters a list of numbers in the NUM's To Be Affected By Player Challenge Factor Entry.
Entries can be made that are used with word and number challenges to add additional images, text, and sounds to a challenge.   The images, text, and sounds can be presented before, during, and after a challenge.   Differences in text, images, and sounds that are presented to a player occur depending on how a player responds to a challenge.
Although challengers are not required for presenting challenges to players, there are pre-made challengers are included with every download of the Challenge Maze Software.   Challengers can also be pre-made by others and shared.   To use a challenger in a challenge, an entry in the (room number.txt) File called the Challenger Name Entry should be written.   The name of the challenger should be written on that entry line.   The names of the challengers are the same as the names of the folders in the Challengers Folder.   Accordingly, any shared challenger's folder should be added to the Challengers Folder so that the challenger can be used by simply entering that challenger's name in Challenger Name Entry.
Feel free to look in the Challengers Folder to learn all you can about the files and folders that make it possible for the Challenge Maze Software to present a challenger.
To create a custom challenger, the files for that challenger should be included within a new folder in the Challengers Folder.
All of these files should be in a folder called 'Friendly Monster' inside the Challengers Folder.   The 'Friendly Monster Defeat.wav' file is the sound that will play when the player solves the challenge.   The 'Friendly Monster Intro.wav' file is the sound that will play when the challenger is introduced.   The 'Friendly Monster Wrong.wav' file is the sound that will play when the player enters an incorrect attempt to solve the challenge.   The 'Friendly Monster.png' file is the image of the challenger and determines what the challenger looks like.   The 'Friendly Monster.txt' file is a textfile with entries that determine what the challenger says (in the form of text) to the player, determine some things the challenger can do, and determine how long it will take to say or do those things.   To learn more about options available in the textfile please visit the (challenger name).txt File page.   To learn more about each type of file (txt, png, wav) please visit the Files & Folders Page.
These folders should also be in the folder called 'Friendly Monster' inside the Challengers Folder.   The folders each hold images that are to be used for animations when the challenger is introduced, is defeated, or informs the player of a wrong answer to a challnege.   To keep things somewhat simple, it only required that one image is placed in each of the folders.   This can be done by simply placing a copy of the 'Friendly Monster.png' file in each of the folders.   There is also one textfile that is required in each of these folders.   That textfile is the Animation Details.txt File.   Since these folders are meant to allow for the creation of additional animations for the challengers, the Animation Details.txt File has entries related to the creation of animations.   Again to keep things simple, there are no required entries in this file if only one image is placed in each folder.   In instances where only one image is placed in each folder, the specific entry lines in the Animation Details.txt File can be left blank.   To make an Animation Details.txt File with blank entries, a file can be copied from an existing challenger.   To learn more about creating complete additional animations, please visit the Animations Section and the Animation Details.txt Page.
