Overview of the Start & End

For a tutorial about all the parts of a Challenge Maze, and how Start & End Scenes fit in with all the other parts, please visit the Quick Start Maze Section.

To increase player engagement, the Challenge Maze Software includes options to add starting scenes in the entrance room of a maze and ending scenes in the exit rooms of a maze.   With the starting scenes a Maze Maker can include an introductory story that sets the mood for a player prior to the player beginning the maze.   The ending scenes can reward the player for the work they have done and challenges they have solved to find their way through the maze.

Additionally, there is a possibility of providing different rewards with the ending scenes.   A player can see different ending scenes depending upon which of the three possible exits the player has found, depending upon how many points the player gained while they were finding their way through the maze, and depending upon the secrets a player recovered while they were finding their way through the maze.

Entrance & Exit Rooms

There is only one possible entrance room for any maze and it is based upon the (room number).txt File with the name of '0001.txt'.   When a player starts a new game the entrance room is the first room that the player will see.   The Challenge Maze Software will present a room's appearance and passages based upon what is written in the '0001.txt' file entries.

The Challenge Maze Software is not designed to process Found Room Points, Challenges, Secrets, or CutScenes in the entrance room.   Trying to use any of these in the entrance room will result in problematic behavior or the crashing of the Challenge Maze Software.

There are 3 possible exits for mazes.   A Maze Maker can use one, two, or three.   The exit rooms of a maze are based upon the textfiles a Maze Maker would like them to be based upon.   To tell the Challenge Maze Software which rooms will be exit rooms, a Maze Maker can write the room numbers in the Exit Highest - Room Number Entry, Exit Middle - Room Number Entry, or Exit Lowest - Room Number Entry.

The only entries that Challenge Maze Software is designed process in the exit rooms are the Room Points Entry, Found Room Already Status Entry, Found Room Sound Path Entry, TIME - Found Room Sound Entry, and the CutScene Entry.   While it is possible to write other entries in the (room number).txt File, most entries will just be ignored and some may cause undesirable behavior.   The passage entries can cause really strange behaviors with the Challenge Maze Software because the software expects that a player will not be able to re-enter the maze once they have left.
